Random or easy to remember?

Use a random password when a password manager saves it for you. Use easy to remember for the few you must type, like your phone or computer login.

One password per account

If one website leaks, attackers try the same password everywhere. A different password for each account stops that.

Turn on two-step login

For email, banking and social media, add a code from an app or SMS. Then a stolen password alone is not enough.

Questions people ask

Is it safe to make a password online?

Here, yes. Passwords are made inside your browser with its secure random generator. They are not saved and never sent to our server or anyone else.

How long should my password be?

At least 12 characters for normal accounts, and 16 or more for email and banking. Longer is always stronger.

What is an easy to remember password?

It is a few random words joined together, like Tiger-Maple-42-Ocean. It is long, so it is strong, but much easier to type and remember than random letters.

What does "bits" mean?

Bits show how hard a password is to guess. Every extra bit doubles the guesses needed. 72 bits or more is strong for most uses.

How is crack time worked out?

We assume a fast computer trying 10 billion guesses a second against a leaked password file. Real attacks on websites are usually much slower.
